The Coordinator, Africa Scholars Mentorship Network (ASMN) and Founder DePECOS Institutions and Development Research Centre (DIaDeRC), Professor Evans Osabuohien, on Thursday, June 20, 2024, led members of DIaDeRC and alumnus of ASMN to the 2024 National Budget Roundtable and Panel Discussion of the Centre for Economic Policy and Development Research (CEPDeR) which have become a pivotal and critical platform for dissecting economic policies, building a critical mass of policy experts in the field of economics, monetary policies, exchange rates and evolving ideas towards promoting sustainable development in Nigeria.
The occasion availed members of DIaDeRC and alumnus of the ASMN to engage with policymakers, industry experts and the academia on issues that revolves around exchange rates, national economic growth and sustainable development in the country.
The theme of the 2024 National Budget Roundtable and Panel Discussion was ‘Exchange Rate Management and National Budgeting for Sustainable Development in Nigeria’ with the Keynote Speaker being the Special Adviser to the President on Economic Affairs, Dr Tope Fasua.
Other industry experts at the event include the Dean of the School of Management and Social Sciences, Pan-Atlantic University, Dr Sola Oni (represented by Dr Faith Iyoha), Co-Managing Partner/Founder, Commercio Partners, Mr Nnamdi Nwizu, and the Portfolio Manager, Cowrywise Financial Technology, Ms Busola who served as the moderator of the panel session.
The event was declared open by the award-winning Vice Chancellor of Covenant University (Prof Abiodun Adebayo. Many principal officers of the university were also present. As it was in other editions, the event was well attended. There were many insightful fallouts from the event, which will be shared in a subsequent post. A quick one that stood out for DIaDeRC team is the place of data not just as numbers and facts but as a ‘hard currency’ and wealth-creating tool that should be intentionally planned for and harnessed using modern technology, among others.
