DIaDeRC Highlights Key Milestones for 2024

The year 2024 proved to be an extraordinarily eventful and highly productive period in the relatively brief yet significant history of the DePECOS Institution and Development Research Centre (DIaDeRC). Consequently, in an effort to preserve the remarkable and landmark achievements attained during 2024 calendar year, the leadership team of the Centre has meticulously assembled a compendium that highlights notable accomplishments.

The DIaDeRC 2024 Report encompasses a broad spectrum of activities and impactful events that have been orchestrated by the Centre, alongside its members and associates, which include both the DIaDeRC Team and the African Scholars Mentorship Network (ASMN) Premium Members, in addition to highlighting the Centre’s various endeavors on the global stage, as well as detailing its numerous partnerships, conferences, workshops, seminars, symposiums, and roundtable discussions that collectively contributed to its mission of ‘Honing Knowledge for Transforming Lives’.

Moreover, the compendium not only encapsulated the various awards and significant milestones achieved during the year, but it also prominently featured the Centre’s flagship training initiative, known as the African Scholars Mentorship Network (ASMN), specifically focusing on the Bootcamp Series 3, which has been aptly designated as ASMN 3.0 and its subsequent iteration ASMN 4.0.

In expressing his profound appreciation for the numerous accomplishments recorded during the year under review, the DIaDeRC Founding, Professor Evans Osabuohien, remarked that the year 2024 has indeed represented a pivotal juncture for DIaDeRC, characterised by remarkable achievements that have significantly empowered African researchers in various disciplines. The year encapsulated a multitude of accomplishments that have decisively influenced the developmental trajectory of DIaDeRC. He noted that “2024 represented our inaugural full operational year post-registration in March 2023, and I would like to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of our dedicated team as well as our advisory board members,”.

Professor Osabuohien, who expressed great enthusiasm regarding the Centre’s inaugural physical event that took place in February 2024 in collaboration with Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ogun State, Nigeria, reaffirmed DIaDeRC’s unwavering commitment to advancing research initiatives and fostering societal impact through such collaborations. He enthusiastically highlighted the successful launch of the DIaDeRC Job Portal, which has significantly enhanced the Centre’s role in promoting human capacity development and facilitating professional growth among its members and the broader community.

The year 2024 will undoubtedly be remembered as a golden chapter in the historical narrative of DIaDeRC, especially considering that one of its distinguished Advisory Board members, Prof. James Robinson, was honoured with the prestigious Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences. Furthermore, it is noteworthy that two of our ASMN Premium members achieved the esteemed Non-Resident Fellowship Programme (NRFP) awards conferred by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), successfully securing two out of the six awards that were available nationally.

In a remarkably brief period dedicated to fostering excellence in scholarship and promoting research publication, DIaDeRC has successfully established itself as a prominent leader in research impact and grant writing endeavours, which has further solidified the Centre’s steadfast commitment to its foundational philosophy of facilitating transformative change and advancing human development across various sectors and communities.
