An illustrious Premium Member of the African Scholars Mentorship Network (ASMN), the training arm of DePECOS Institutions and Development Research Centre (DIaDeRC), was among the participants selected for the Technical Workshop on Research Methods, Proposal Writing, and Presentation Skills for African Scholars. The workshop, organised by the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), took place from September 30 to October 12, 2024, in Nairobi, Kenya.
Dr Ajala Adedolapo Kemi, an ASMN Premium Member and a faculty member at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, was one of the four Nigerian participants attending the workshop in-person. The call for applications to the highly competitive program was shared earlier this year on the ASMN Premium members’ platform, where Dr Ajala took advantage by applying and was successfully selected.
The two-week workshop hosted 30 physical participants and 20 online participants, comprising Ph.D scholars in Economics from across the African continent. The training featured advanced sessions on a wide range of research methodologies, including: Developing robust research frameworks; experimental designs, literature review techniques, including systematic reviews, scoping reviews, and meta-analyses, panel autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) models, survival time treatment effects analysis, and panel corrected standard error (PCSE) models.
The workshop provided participants with critical skills to enhance their research capabilities, proposal writing, and presentation techniques, equipping them to contribute significantly to Africa’s economic research landscape.
Dr Ajala’s participation underscores ASMN’s commitment to nurturing the research potential of its members and fostering excellence among African scholars.
