Prof Osabuohien, Others Parley at the UNEP-GEO 7 Quadrennial Event on Environment and Economic Trends

The Chair, DePECOS Institutions and Development Research Centre (DIaDeRC) and Coordinator of the African Scholars Mentorship Network (ASMN), Professor Evans Osabuohien, recently participated in the quadrennial event of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Global Environment Outlook 7 (GEO-7) which accompanied the third edition of the GEO-7 Global Authors’ Workshop in Nairobi, Kenya. The workshop was co-hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and held between the 2nd and 5th of September 2024.

The 4-day event will see Professor Osabuohien and other lead authors foster discussions on cross-sectoral issues and interlinkages between chapters. The workshop was to aid the integration of recommendations from the co-authors towards preparing the second-order draft for the intergovernmental and expert peer review processes that are expected to run from November 01, 2024, to January 15, 2025.

The event also entailed assessing the state of the environment, the effectiveness of policies and actions taken to address environmental issues, and projections of future environmental trends.

Professor Osabuohien had the opportunity of interacting with alumni of ASMN initiative who were at the event. Prof. Osabuohien equally engaged with the East Africa Manager of SciencePO, Cynthia Isimbi, where issues of mutual interest and possible collaboration between DIaDeRC and her institution were discussed.

The Global Environmental Outlook 7 (GEO-7) is an intergovernmental and expert-led process convened by UNEP.

This 3rd Workshop is a follow-up on the 2nd Workshop (held in January 2024 in Vienna, Austria) and 1st Workshop (March 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand).

Many thanks to the UNEP team and my co-authors for a productive session.
